Horror Survey

We created a questionnaire in order to find out what our audience wanted

This is the link to survey monkey page where we put a questionnaire:

Evaluation of Preliminary Task

For our Preliminary Task, we were asked to make a short movie that incorporated two camera techniques. These techniques were match on action and shot reverse shot, but we also had to take into account the 180 degree rule and not to break this rule. We decided in our movie it would involve Ryan and Amy in the shot and me directing it.

During filming, my role was camera man and director. I made sure the mise-en-scene was correct and that no shot was compromised by background interference or basic mistakes. The shots we used during filming were widely varied as we used close ups, long shots and many others. We tried to vary the shots as much as possible in order to make the film more dynamic. The varied amounts of shots would also make editing flow smoother as there would be a great choice of shots and this would hopefully avoid any "jump cuts," during editing. Our framing was very successful as we checked each shot before shooting and made extra shots in case of a mistake. We tried to avoid any continuity errors and did so quite successfully. Similarly with the position of actors, we tried to optimize the position of the actors on screen and again did many takes to make sure we got the right shot.

We were quite happy with the editing process. It went smoothly thanks to the process of filming were we had many choices of shots and angles making the whole film look smooth. However, there were some jump cuts and parts of the movie I was not happy with, but it was nothing major or that noticeable. In our movie, I feel that it went well, but we could have improved on some of the jump cuts. This would have required us to go back and maybe make some medium shots into long shots. This would help as when changing from one shot to another, it is best to make a larger jump than a shorter jump. For example, it is better to go from a close up to a long shot rather than a close up to a medium shot. Another thing we could have improved on in our short movie was the noise level in the building. We limited it as much as we could using iMovie, but it was still disturbing. We could have corrected this by using a different program such as Final Cut were you can control the noise levels a lot easier. We could have also moved to a different location to film. It may have not been as good for our movie, but it would have helped with the noise levels. I think, our group worked well together and we were able to make a good short movie. We all did our roles well and did what was asked of us, but the chemistry of the group may not be right and is something that needs to be corrected. I feel very confident in using the camera and iMovie as i have some experiences with the equipment and I enjoy using them a lot.
